WEEE stands for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment, this is the waste generated from destroying electrical equipment. WEEE has 13 categories of electrical waste which can include anything from PCs, laptops mobile phones and many other types of electrical equipment. Currently the UK and European Regulations have been put into place to reduce the amount of waste created from destroying computers and other electrical equipment.

WEEE Directive
With the aim to reduce the amount of waste being sent to landfills; the WEEE Directive (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive) was introduced by the European commission in January 2003; and the UK WEEE Regulations came into force in January 2007. The WEEE Directive encourages organisations to reduce amount of electrical equipment being produced and encourages them to reduce, reuse and recycle their electrical waste.

Does this affect my business?
The WEEE regulations requires businesses to take responsibility of the electrical waste they produce to minimise the amount of impact on the environment.

Depending on your business you may be affected by the WEEE regulations as a 'producer' or a 'distributer' of electrical and electronic waste. Your company will be a producer if it manufactures, imports, or re-brands electrical or electronic equipment. Distributers are usually companies who provide electronic goods to household end-users; these usually include shops internet sellers telesales companies etc. These companies are usually referred to as 'retailers' in the WEEE regulations.

As a business (producer or distributer) you are legally required to collect and dispose your waste electrical equipment in a responsible manner; i.e. it must be re-used or recycled by the appropriate authorities. As well as disposing of the equipment you are also required to provide full documentation to show that you have legally disposed of the equipment.

The services we provide allow us to take this responsibility on your behalf; we collect and dispose of your equipment responsibly. We also provide documentation (in the form of a Duty of Care Waste Transfer Note and Hazardous Waste Consignment Note) which proves that you have legally disposed your electrical waste.
